Embroidery as an Upcycling Practice

This workshop introduces textile upcycling through hand embroidery. Participants bring a garment to transform and learn basic embroidery techniques while giving new life to an existing piece. Open to beginners and experienced makers.

Bring: one garment and an idea or reference for your embroidery. All other materials are provided.

The session is led by Luísa Leão, a textile‑based artist living in Faro whose experimental work draws on sewing and collage gestures from her childhood. She began exploring embroidered illustration in Milan and has since expanded her practice across diverse textile processes. Luísa has participated in exhibitions and residencies since 2022, and in 2024 became an artist‑in‑residence at GAMA RAMA Gallery.
